Axle interchange

Will a SRW dana 70 out of an 80's F250/350 with a diesel bolt into my 2wd 1973 F250? Mainly, are the frame widths the same?

Sam
I just took a sterling 10.25 out of a diesel 87 f250 2wd srw and it bolted right up to where a nine inch used to be in the back of my 74 f100 2wd. I had to shorten my driveshaft and run a 1310/1330 conversion joint, but the leaf spring centers are in the same spot, and the brake line on the frame side was the same size. I'm still working out the parking brake cable details.

I know we have different situations but I hope this info helps you out.

Good to know, I considered the sterling, but I've got enough dana parts I might as well just stick with them.

Some where in my memory someone said a 70's 2wd dana 60 will replace a 70's 9" so if the sterling replaces it too, they've got to be the same. And if the 87 sterling is the same chances are the 80-86 trucks are too.

Thanks!

You refer to this U-joint as a conversion, but FoMoCo & Spicer/Dana refer to it as:

C5TZ-4635-F (Spicer/Dana #210392 X) .. U-Joint-2 cups are 1310's, 2 cups are 1330's.

This joint is usually found on 1965/79 F100's & 1975/79 F150's with a 2 piece driveshaft. 3 of these joints are required.

Thanks ND! Although I didn't even need any kind of part number when I went to the driveline shop, I just told them what the shaft was out of, and what the rear axle was from, and they told me exactly what I needed
