1999 F-250 V10 advice
I am in the market for a F-250 to pull some toys. I have owned two F-150's in the past and had no problems. I am currently looking at a 1999 F-250 Extended Cab Long bed 4X4 6.8 V10 with 120,000 miles for $6,000. I understand the fuel is bad, so I accept it, being this will be a spare vehicle and used when needed.
I need some advice from previous or current owners. Do you recommend this vehicle? From reading, I found the v10 to be very strong and reliable, but I want to hear it first hand from you all.
I used the search feature and found some good threads, but they were several years old. What should I look for regarding problems?
Thanks

It's a very nice truck. Good power, reliability that comes with 11-12 mpg.
I'd check on the maintenance records, plugs at 100k, ATF flushes at 35-50k on the 4r100.
Test the truck in both 2wd and 4 wd. The vacuum lock lines go bad on the front.
With front leafs, not coils, the turning radius makes it difficult in tight spaces.
Expect it to burn a bit of oil, although, not uncommon.
Run an OBD tester for fault codes...vacuum lines, COP faults, etc.
Probably time for ball joints, test with a crow bar in the gap with wheels off the ground. Check inside tire wear, cupping. Maybe shocks too.
Fuel filter's an easy change and should also have been done every 35k.
Good luck.

We have had 2 V10 trucks and both hands down were dead reliable and I loved them. If we had more of a need for our last V10 then I would hands down still have it. Even if you wanted it to be unreliable it wouldn't.
Our first V10 was a 2002 F250 4x4 extended cab.
Our last V10 was a 2002 F250 4x4 crew cab.

Mine had 176k on it when it was traded off and the only issues were slow power windows and a power door lock on the pass side that did not always work.. Both issues have fixes documented in the tech section here on FTE..
