A little piece of gorilla tape or duct tape will hold the torx bit in. I had to do this when I removed the pass side oil rail. I used a ground down torx bit inside a 1/4" socket on a 1/4" breaker bar. Just make sure there is no oil on the bit or the tape won't stick, you don't want the bit coming out and falling into the engine.

Good idea. I usually make the tool. I epoxy the bit in the socket permanently. I learned that one on a fuel injected 302 in a 91 Bronco. There was one torx bit head right in the spot where you had to use a long extension to get to and that was the only way I could figure out how to keep it in place--still got that piece around somewhere.

Any thought to changing the power steering fluid and brake fluid?

I actually haven't. All appeared fresh when I bought it so it hasn't been on the radar--but I suppose it would be advisable
On the brakes--the next change I'll be rebuilding the calipers but that is going to be another 100k miles hopefully so I should probably do thd fluid this time around then.

Well since I can't make it to SDS to do any work ( about the only ones I would trust) I'll have to settle with getting the parts from them. Julie worked up the parts list for what I'm doing and quoted me dang near the same as what I could piece together from 3 different places ( cheaper actually-few other odds and ends that wouldn't be with the others). This is the delete, dp,standpipes, stc,all gaskets and hardware--even a list of tool sizes. I'm happy about that. Now to order and schedule some time off Thanks again SDS for getting the list to me quick.

Well been crunching the numbers an gonna try and add the 190 Dc alt and wire kit to my list. I really want to do it all at once but we will see may still have to split it up and do the alt later. One question for yall. Since I'll have everything off of the top of the motor should I pull the oil cooler and replace the screen? Not planning on changing it since it is in great shape. What are ya'lls thoughts on that?

I wouldn't pull the oil cooler just to change the screen unless the IPR screen indicated otherwise.

I wouldn't either. That's a helluva lot of work unless you have a very valid reason. You can get more contamination than what you might already have if you're not careful.

Good point. Didn't know if it was that much more work or not. It's definitely off the table. Thanks

If this is the week you're taking off, I hope you've got a nice warm garage to work in. Just skyped with Mom there in Desoto Co and it sounds like it's gonna be a chilly icy week in the Midsouth.

Haha--luckily not. Looks like it's gonna be a few weeks before the weather is right for it. Just took the pup out and as I suspected the ground is fine (at least in the yard) but raised areas are frozen. It's 27 right now but gonna get colder tonight. Tomorrow is gonna be nasty with all the rain frozen.

Started ording parts today. Ordered fuel and oil filters, trans filter, new 08 trans pan and gasket, and an extea turbo mount kit (just to be safe)Will be ordering my main stuff around the 1st. Will pick up the y pipe core this weekend and get it sent out and start picking up all the fluids. With this weather I'll have tons of time to get everything in hand before I get to work. I usually dont work it that way but seems to be working out better that way. When I get started I'll start a new thread and have pics, part numbers and such so it'll be all in one place.

Stuff from Ed at Ficmrepair.com

Now I can start some fun. The tranny pain will wait for another time. First order of business is the EGR delete.
