3/4 ton axles in a 79 Bronco
What are everyone's thoughts about this. I found a set of axles locally. I know the truck axles are leak spring, but the axle housings are identical so all I would need to do is swap all the components from the front axle to my housing and I am good to go.
Could there be a down side to having large brakes, and full float rear axle?

what many do is swap from the knuckle out to gain 8 lug up front and then swap a FF rear diff out back. there should be plenty of write ups on how to approach this as some use chevy parts to accomplish this.
the key to an upgrade like this is make sure that what ever front end setup you go with those parts are readily available at the parts store in the event you have a failure down the road.

I found a set of 3/4 ton axles from a 76 F250, I knew I would need to gut the front to get the gearing and use the outer parts for it to work on my coil sprung set up.
I guess my biggest question is there much of an upgrade, other than 8 lug wheels and the full float rear? I can swap in hardened axles in the front, and upgrade the rear with disc brakes and mosher axles for strength.

Here's the link to my build thread with the pics of me swapping the front. The front swap info starts around post #31.
Also remember that you will NOT be able to use the front gears from the F-250 in the bronco axle. The Bronco is a high pinion where the F-250 is a low pinion axle.
If I had purchased my Bronco with the factory axles in place I probably would have just done upgrades to them as I found the weak points. I didn't have much choice as the rear had been swapped and I had all of the parts on hand to swap the front from 2 F-250's that I had scrapped years ago.
It is really up to you if you want to spend the money to sway the F-250 parts and have stock strength 3/4 ton axles or if you want to spend the money and upgrade you factory axles. I'm guessing that you could upgrade everything to stronger than the F-250 for less time and money if you are really in the market to upgrade.
Just my 2 cents.
Let us know what you decide.
