Battery light is on. Gets. Richter as rpm comes up, almost goes completely out at idle. Thoughts?

Get one of these and see what it says under various rpm conditions. This will help with possible causes and solutions.

What year is your vehicle. This is important to know how to proceed. There were two changes in the indicator illumination systems for the battery lamp.

03. The old alternator was charging but the regulator wasn't upping the output when the load increased. Threw a meter on it while it was running and added to the load little by little and watched battery voltage drop and the alternator output stayed constant. Changed the alternator and had them bench test the old one and sure enough it failed

Good deal! Glad it worked out for you!

* On 03 there is a resistor in the panel which is nor serviceable. There are after market shops that will repair it for you if that were your problem.
