Guy down the road has exactly what youre talking about on his f-superduty. Uses a PTO pump. Works pretty slick, only time you need to use the pto is when stopped really anyway. Also, it depends on the transmission, 90% sure the zf5 can run the pto in every gear besides OD / R.

There is the idea of running 2 power steering pumps, I would have to do a little more research but I may somehow be able to use the pump that is used in the braking systems of the old busses that carry these engines from what I understand the hydraulic pump used for braking in the busses is a little more heavy duty, I have an F Superduty myself that runs a hydraulic PTO for the air compressor and crane that is mounted to it, it may dependent on what pto you have that determines if it can be ran while the truck is in motion or not the truck I have specifically states not to operate the air compressor or crane while moving the truck, it does not state why but my guess would either be the fluid would heat up to fast or because of the pressure on the flywheel it could cause the teeth to chip away but really I have no idea lol

Why don't you want to run a belt driven pump on the front of the engine?

I would rather have a gear driven pump over a belt driven pump mainly for the reliability aspect of it, gear driven pumps are typical better built and would supply the power I am needing with no problem

Pto's do not like spinning at 3k rpm. Most run direct off output shaft of trans. Hit road speed and they usually grenade whatever is being powered.

Yea, thought it went without saying, max rpm is 1000-1200 for a pto.

who said a pto will not work in motion? you can drive with a pto in gear all day long with no problems as long as you do not overheat the pump.

Run a Pto in gear on one of my trucks and it is the last day you work for me. Replace a hydro pump or a pto case once and you will agree. Sure the pto case may survive drive speeds...but the driven attachment usually does not.

fire trucks use pto driven pumps, and in brush fire season is is not out of the normal conditions to go 8 hours of pumping while driving, only stopping to refill the tank.
another example: farm spray trucks. pto driven pump. spray crops for 8 hours solid while driving and only stopping to refill the tank.

Big difference between 3-5 mph spraying and 45mph roadspeed.
