Negative Battery Cable F100 6 cyl help

Hey Guys - I need to tap the power of the "been there done that crowd".

Three questions:

1. Does anyone know a good source for a negative battery cable for a 1979 F100 with the inline 6?

2. Does anyone know what the actual length is supposed to be? I suspect the one I am taking off is not the original (it's 32" long).

3. 2 gauge vs. 4 gauge - does it make that big of a difference?

Local parts stores have lots of cheap generic cables (less than $10.00) but I would rather spend the money on better cables if it really makes a difference.

Thanks - Scott

I prefer to build my own.. I buy the longest one from AZO or Oreilly's and install my own lugs and terminals. I never use the terminal that comes with it... instead, it's replaced with a modern, clamp-on style. Heat-shrink too!!

For lo-buck electrical supplies, consider Del City - Electrical Supplies & Professional Grade Wiring Products or Welcome to Waytek

And if ya need a lug whacker, I suggest a TEMCo:

I got a nice heavy duty gauge from rockauto. Mine was for the 302. I also got the positive side that came with an accessory connection. Don't use it but they were both heavy duty with real nice terminals. Cost was less than local places and better quality.

HIO SILVER, thank you for your info! What gauge do you recommend for these trucks?

I plan on making my own next month.
