Unhappy 5.4L 3V CAMSHAFT TIMING

BACKGROUND: The problem with my 2005 Navigator started with a misfire on #8 (P0308). I did all the obvious mods (new plugs, COP boots, #8 fuel injector, COP connector, fuel filter, air filter, cleaned MAF sensor, CPS). Throughout this series of changes, I drove with my scanner plugged in and observed the code only came in on cold starts. I finally took it to Ford for computer diagnosis and they found nothing wrong. All cylinders had 175 psi compression, fuel and spark signals good, fuel pressures all good. Ford wanted to remove bank 2 valve cover and inspect valve train for $450, so I opted to do that myself. I found no obvious valve spring or valve issues, but while I had it open I followed the factory service manual steps and replaced the phaser gear, the 3 lash adjusters on #8 and cleaned all the other lash adjusters. After reassembly, I immediately started getting cam position sensor codes P0345 & P0349. The cam sensor and wiring are all fine. Same signals are being received at the PCM from both banks. My theory is that the bank 2 chain must have moved a tooth or two on the bottom crank sprocket due to misplaced chain wedge.

HELP NEEDED: The question is, how to interpret the schematic of the LH #5 cam lobe position in Step 13 of the service manual? Should the intake lobes be parallel to the plane of the head or parallel to the horizontal plane?

Obviously, I'm trying to avoid removing the front cover!
