77 Ford F150 dies while driving

Recently I have been having problems with my truck. I start it up, let it warm up, and i take off to go about my day. Once the truck is running at the optimum temperature, while driving, the truck will just die. Once I pull over to the side of the road, I try to start my truck but the engine will mot turn over. Its cranks but doesn't turn. Not until the temperature of the truck has gone down. Which usually takes a few hours. I changed out my ignition coil because my "New" one was bad. After replacing it i took my truck for a drive. Once it got hot again, it died on me, but started right back up this time with tue new coil. Bit the problem still remains. Why is my truck dying on me in the middle of driving? Please help.

It's either a clogged fuel filter, or a bad IM? Since you have already changed the coil, I'd guess it's the IM. Have you replaced the Ignition module yet? It is the box on the dvrs side inner fender well.

Ignition modules, 74 (black grommet) and 75 (green grommet) are year specific and will not interchange. 76 to 79 (blue grommet) are interchangeable.
Ignition modules: 1974 is 1974 ONLY / 1975 is 1975 ONLY.
Blue module introduced in 1976 was used well into the 1990's.
D4AZ-12A199-C 1974 only
DuraSpark ignition modules identified by a colored plastic insert located above where the wires feed out.
2 others: One has a red plastic insert, the other has a yellow or brown plastic insert.
Red module is D7AZ-12A199-A used in some CA vehicles ONLY.
D9AZ-12A199-C (replaced D8AZ-12A199-A). One of these modules is yellow , one is brown .. Since the part number was replaced, I cannot recall which module was which color.
These modules were used in 1978/79 302 & 351M/W vehicles sold in high altitudes only. 351W: Passenger Cars & Econolines only.
1U2Z-12A199-AA (replaced D6AZ-12A199-B - D7AZ-12A199-B - D8VZ-12A199-A - D9VZ-12A199-A) .. Ignition Module - blue insert (Motorcraft DY-893) / Available from Ford.

here is a couple possibles .. brainbox , pick up in dizzy , this is assuming you have NO spark when the problem is happening , also could check down the carb throat for fuel squirt , possible vaporlock ?

I would lean towards ign module in the dizzy , had an issue with a lincoln 400 ,everyone was saying brainbox , but 1 old gentlman at a shop I delivered to turned me on to the idea of the module PRESTO never had any issues again

Before I replaced the coil I had bought a IM and it didnt fix the problem. So I took it back. But I haven't tried it with the new coil. I haven't checked the fuel filter at all. Not to mention I don't have a choke on my carb either. So I've been told I may be choking the carb out and its dying. But them starts right back up. Its just very confusing. I've replaced the cap and rotor in the dizzy. New starter cuz old one was sapping my battery down to 6 volts when cranking the engine. I've had so many problems with this truck and not alot of money to go take it in to ashop.

remove dizzy cap and rotor , three screws holding pick up coil, get a new one and install it . Rock auto sells them from between 10 and 40 bucks cheap enough to replace . If yours is heating up it will kill the engine . once it cools down the engine will restart,

There's nothing else to it? Unscrew, pull out, and replace? I don't have to worry about retiming anything?

remove dist cap, unplug harness that goes into dist, take little e-clip off of vacuum advance arm being careful not to drop it, remove reluctor ring off of dist shaft, remove screws (think mine only has 2 but dont remember for sure) pop old stator aka pick up coil off , reverse procedure to re-install. Go to napa instead of autozone or 1 of the fast food parts stores and buy 1 of the better quality ones. Its well worth the extra $10. I think mine cost like $23 .

Well, It is two possibilities: Fuel or spark. See which one is missing (or both) and go from there. Probably spark though. pickup or module.

I suffered this problem with a '77 back in '79 or so.
The brain box mounted on the inner fender had come loose, loosing it's ground.
Check there first, it cost nothing to fix.

Just wanted to post a message and say thank you to everyone who replied to my post. I changed out the pickup coil and that seems to have solved the problem. Again thank you. Saved me alot of time and money trying to figure out what was wrong one part at a time.
