Unhappy Chesapeake Contacts

Saved up $15,000 over last few years bought a rodded out 56 F100 with a 429 out of a 72 Lincoln / Muncie 4 Speed manual trans off eBay advertised as a driver delivered ... hard to start and wouldn't stay running. Haven't figured out how to post pics but the guy left a rag in the sump after his rebuild found when I was changing oil. I live in Chesapeake VA hoping for shop recommendation looking into Rory and Son right now but man my wallet is hurting from initial buy can't afford anymore rip off.

Oh, and we do have guys here that are from VA. Obviously, Chesapeake is on the Bay. Are you on the DelMarVa Peninsula or on the VA mainland?

Welcome!

Did the rag cover the oil pump screen, and you lost oil pressure? I hope not.

Wow, how do the cylinder walls, cam and crank journals look?

It looks like that rag has been in there for quite some time. Have you contacted the seller to ask what the heck they did/if the other party was aware?

I feel your pain on that one. That is about as nasty looking as Iv'e seen. You recon a rodent could have dragged trash and built a nest in the pan? I've seen nests in about every other part of a vehicle.
And, BTW, welcome to the forum.

Don't got the cash to get in this one yet waiting to file tax return ... found a crap *** load of either copper or brass shavings in the sump I am banking on new crank cam at a minimum really just hoping the block is good ... you got a 429?

The more I look at those pictures the more I believe it is the remains of a mouse nest. How many of us have had an engine partially assembled, sitting on an engine stand where a mouse could build a nest. I just don't believe a rag would come apart like that.

Thanks ... sure was enough material for a nest! Really got sucker punched on this one really thought I was buying a driver. The shop I bought from said they had no idea and the guy they bought it from doesn't answer his phone ... pretty sure he is a terrorist can't see a real American pullin one like this.

Here is what I would do if I were you, look for a running 460 or similar.

You are going to be able to pick up an ok running engine for lets say 1500. You will have AT LEAST that into a rebuild.

It will get you on the road for much less initial money and you will have the 429 to sell or rebuild when you get the time/space/funding etc then you can sell the temporary engine to recoup some cash back if you choose
