I have the U-bolt plate. I appreciate your concern, though.

If you decide to go with 4.10s, remember that it might be cheaper/easier to find a complete rear axle to swap; maybe even find someone wanting 3.55s.

Glad you found one Joseph. That is about the going rate around here. I looked for months before I found mine. Had to go up to Indy and get it too. I put a lot of money into rebuilding both axles but they should be good for a long time. I put a Detroit true trac in the rear and would like to put one in the front too. It is basically a limited slip with out the clutches. It uses gears instead. Ctc down in chandler does really good work and can get any of the parts you need for those axles. You didn't get a bad deal. Just sounds like some body needs to raise there price

Good deal Joseph. You didn't do too bad from where I sit. People are proud of D60's around here. Beds and motors as well. I looked and looked and looked for a decent 7.3 motor. One finally fell in my lap for 850.

Joseph!!! Fair deal in my book as well. There's 2 yards around here that have D60s available and they want 1000 for incomplete setups as well.

And Dang Todd! Is it a running 7.3 or in need of parts?

Okay, assuming that I continue with this, what should I do to the axle as a matter of course at this point. I figure I'll want to replace all of the bearings and seals and the kingpins, right? Where is a good place to find parts? Just do RockAuto and look up a 1990 F350 4x4?

I'd just make sure you get good parts for it, I don't know that it matters a whole lot where they come from. I'd try and stick with Timken bearings and Spicer seals and parts if it's me, but that's just me. Bronco Graveyard is a good place to look, like Gabe says, as is Drivetrain America. I got some pieces parts from them for mine last time I was into it and they seemed to have good service and prices on the Spicer goodies I bought.

There is some debate out there about the inner axle seals for these things too. There is an old 1 piece design that was used for years, and a newer, 2 piece design that can be retrofitted into the housing by removing a metal lip on the seal. Supposedly the new one is a better design and should last longer, but it's more expensive and I think you could probably make the argument that if the old seal lasts 200k miles like a lot of them have, then do you really need to look for a different design? I went with the new pieces when I replaced mine, but I think either one would work just fine.

So the axle you got is a Kingpin axle then? I must have missed that part in here somehow...

Yeah, it's got kingpins. It was manufactured in 1990, I believe.

I wanted kingpins because I heard that they last longer. I also heard that replacing D60 kingpins is very difficult. Oh, well. It's always blood, sweat, and tears for me. That's half of the fun!

Let me just say that I bent a 3/4 drive breaker bar trying to remove the old kingpins, then rented a 900 ft-lb impact gun that did jack didly; heat didn't help either. In the end I had to stand on the axle with one foot holding the bent breaker bar on the kingpin, and swung away with an 8 lb splitting maul.

Here's another shop; it's where I got my parts... DANA 60 PARTS

Just an update. I am going through with this. I'll update with information about my progress. Right now I'm working copious amounts of overtime while I accumulate parts. The overall plan is to swap to the solid Dana 60 from the 50TTB, utilizing a PMF RSK and Super Duty front springs, and regear the 10.25" rear to 4.10 gears. Also Eaton E-lockers front and rear.

Currently working plenty of overtime and waiting for a local shop to install the Eaton electric locker. They currently have the axle.

Any advice, ideas, or guidance is appreciated, especially from those with a positive attitude. Thank you for future, past, and current help.
