Where have all the decent driver trucks gone to?

I have been scouring the web for another f1 to replace the 1952 I had a while back. Life happens and I had to move it down the road to a new home. I am in a position to replace it now and I can't find anything that fits the bill.
It seems like the caliber of truck I am looking for are few and far between. I am l looking for a driver quality truck with a budget max of 12,500. I would prefer a 1951 or 52 f1. Preference would be a truck with ford power and 6 cyl is fine.
I have not been looking for very long (3 mos). But it seems like my options are a 20+k truck or a 3k basket case. I have been all over craigslist with travel up to 1k miles from Colorado. There just does not seem to be too many options.

Where else should I search other than craigslist and eBay? I guess I am just getting old and 12k doesn't go as far as I remember.

Ha "rant off"

Thanks for letting me vent

I've been thinking about selling mine, but I want more than 12k for it.

Guy here locally bought a nice driver '51 at a yard sale........older build, SBF, driver. 5k.
Right place, right time. I'm never that lucky.

I think it has gotten to the point that yesterday's daily drivers have become today's "barn find" beginnings of high dollar projects. So it's becoming comparable to "The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer"......and the middle man vanishes. We've seen some really rough trucks go for over $10K on ebay in the last year.

Personally, I would prefer to buy the "basket case" instead of a half way done truck that was done incorrectly for thousands more. I have been seeing more and more incorrectly done trucks. There is a lot of issues that can be hidden on a truck. I don't care about looks and cosmetics but when people install brakes, steering, etc. wrong it concerns me. If I do it then I know it was done the way I prefer. Just my .02.

Yeah, that makes 3 "finished" old vehicles......too many to insure, maintain, store, etc. Plus I have several other projects I want to do. Haven't decided yet though....

Well, I think the recent thread about the $15K paint jobs says a lot about the price tags of today.

I see them from time to time on my local craigslist. They go pretty quickly too. There was a beautiful original-style 48 that went up about a week ago for $8500. I just checked and it's gone.

Here is a link to a friend that mite be able to help. Mike Devarent is the Owner, if he doesn't have what you are looking for, he will find you your Pickup. I've known Mike for 42 years. He recently moved his business from Colorado Springs to Penrose Colorado.

Why not consider going to an F2 or larger? A vehicle that has the capacity to do some real work. Nice F2 and F3 come up FS frequently. Good luck in your search.

Three months is only a long time when you are doing the looking. As you search, be aware that FTE members stand at the ready to do a physical inspection in your place, should there be the need. Certainly, we are enablers first - but also ready to help however possible. Just ask.

Speaking of enabling, my quick SearchTempest review had this hit:
1952 Ford F1

While it is above your price range, I'm guessing that the 'old lady' isn't going to be patient forever and the price will drop further. Might be worth keeping an eye on.

Good luck, we'll be pulling for ya.

I put my F3 at the end of the driveway and three days later I had 2 guys making an offer. Never even had to think about putting on CR list. Ended up selling it for a lot less than $12,000 but I was happy with the price. The advice to look for an F2 or F3 is probably a very good idea.

Recently put my 56 F350 up on Kijiji. Left the pricing open, but stated I was up for trades around $2K. Responses I got were pretty much hate mail. Everybody wants it for scrap value. Truth is it is about a weekend's work from running and maybe $5K from a reliable driver.

Well, a sale just ain't gonna happen. My reaction is it's just not worth the hassle to sell anything. As long as I've got the room, I'm gonna keep 'em and enjoy 'em.
