Here's my take.

It was for an aux tank.

Start the rig and disconnect 1 wire at a time and shield it.

If it has no bearing on your rig while running. Guess you didn't need it.

Probe the switch first and disconnect the hot one first. (and shield it)

Whatever it was for, you can safely eliminate it. Box looks like an auto start (remoter). No fob, no job.

Denny (let us know)

Is there an excess of plumbing that could point in that direction??

Did you buy the truck from the previous owner or did you get it at a dealership? Either way, you should be able to contact the previous owner and ask some questions. As its going all over the place, I would lean towards a fuel pump cutoff switch as it does not appear to be mounted in the dash but tucked away under the panel to keep it hidden.

What size fuel tank did these trucks come out with stock?

IV yet to fill this beast up..... I do know however that it cost dang near 80$ to put a 1/2 of a tank of fuel in it. This is when fuel was 3.75 it's now 2.50.

Now I do know the fuel gauge is off a little - it has a vdo gauge it has 5 big lines - empty - 1/4 - half - 7/8 and full.
it between each big line is a Lil mark......... I'll get a pic asap.....
The truck is actually empty when it hits the smaller mark - right before the empty mark! Ask me how I know! Lol.......

I'm guessing 2nd fuel tank as well based on the old cut-off hoses attached to that pump/switch mechanism.

My advice is to surgically remove every bit of that hacked wiring and return the truck to stock ASAP. I have learned there are many things about the wiring on these trucks that appear innocuous, but are in fact nightmares in the making.

Follow each wire from end to end and determine its use or non-use and eliminate everything not used and repair everything that is being used.

the solenoid have 2-inlets, 1-outlet? Yellow wire could be the trigger wire for relay. Check relay to find out what "#" spade the yellow is attached to.

Could also be, SKY's early wvo version jus playn

As you have probably seen, my wiring looks OE. (even back in 'the old school' when I was replacing 8-track players with cassette decks) The first thing I've done to EVERY vehicle I've ever owned was follow the advice I gave above. I have yet to find anything done to my standards - so its gotta go!!

I traced the yellow wire with the fuse today....... it's been discontinued - it was ran right under the drivers side floor board with the rest of the wires but it was cut clean and taped up.......

Guess I will never know what the switch did..... weird thoe.

Thanks guy's!

Probably had a tank in the bed that would look like a simple fuel transport, but was clandestinely tied into the truck. That way he could run off road diesel without getting caught.

Is that [ off road fuel] red?
What is the advantages to running it? Isn't it farm fuel? Is it cheaper then pump fuel - what makes it worth the risk?

Yes, it is red dyed diesel. Nothing in the fuel except the dye. It is used for off road only which means no taxes so the fuel is cheaper. If caught while running on the road the highway patrol will write you around a $1,200 ticket at least that is the price in California and Nevada.
