Hot rear brakes

The pads were replaced 5000 miles ago. Today the truck is acting hard to go, brakes are squealing, and I noticed a hot brake smell. I got home, grabbed a remote thermometer gun and the front rotors are 130 degrees, the back ones are 650 and 700 degrees! Super hot. I'm going to NAPA for new calipers and pads. I hope that fixes it.

Yup - that should fix it. I've had to replace the calipers every. single. time. I change the rear pads.

NAPA calipers came all set up with new brackets. I bought the super premium pads (I ask for the "best you got" when it comes to brakes).

They went right in. The bolts were the same size as the lugnuts and my impact wrench even fit! Very easy.

I think my problem is solved. I did a 30 minute commute in stop and go traffic and after I parked, I could touch the rotor hats with my bare hand. Much better than the sizzling hot I had the day before. It could be my imagination, but I feel like my truck is faster now too! Hopefully my MPG went up as well.

I also used the time to bleed all 4 brakes to get new fluid in there and rotate the tires. Back in business!

Yep. I am getting very good at replacing calipers. The last one I did took about 20 minutes start to finish... Now, if I have more than nominal resistance pushing the piston back in, I replace the caliper because it's going to seize up sooner rather than later.
