1979 f250 h clip keeps falling out

I have a 1979 f250 4x4 3/4 ton that the h clip and spring keeps falling out of the break caliper which let's the caliper move all over inside the rim....I've bought a new clip and bolt and it still keeps falling out as I'm driving....how do I fix this....what is the secret to keeping it in place...please help!!!

Are you installing the caliper support spring properly? On top of the caliber support (H bar) and then tapping it in place? It should take some light hammer tapping force to install it.

I'm thinkin' the OP has DPCs.... the clip (more like a Z) would go under the guide pins to prevent the brake pads from rattling/clacking.

I had to hammer it in place to get it in like you said it seems to fit in snug but as I'm driving down the road it keeps falling out....is there possibly something else I'm missing other than the screw to keep it in place?

Are you installing the H bar (caliper support) the correct way/direction? So it has two 1/2 round notches on the bottom and the bolt (key retaining screw) with a built on washer will be in one of those notches? Are you sure you are getting the caliper installed with it under the top lip 1st of the caliper housing? Hooks under the top lip/edge then rotates down, than tap in the H bar?

That's exactly how I'm doing it....but its poping over the screw and falling out....I just bought the truck and it had a makeshift h bar and spring in that the last owner had used to fix it so I bought a brand new one with a new screw....I'm just wondering if I'm missing something else and not seeing it....the screw is tight against the h bar when I put it together and somehow its still coming out

Try looking at the other side if it is working right.

Does the make shift H bar and spring bar look like the new one you bought? X2 on take the one from the other side and compare.

Heck swap sides with them.

You are using the correct bolt, right? Dorman makes caliper retaining bolts; they have cone under the head that fits tight in the groove of the slide. Regular bolt won't cut it...
