Thread's not exactly dead. It's holding up just fine despite much abuse.

It's been happening a lot I noticed. It's a good thing to bring back an old thread sometimes though, lots of information in there, and for the most part, it cuts down on making another thread for something that already exists.

Final update as I've sold the truck - the TYC starter handled a year of pretty severe abuse as my fuel system had issues and much cranking was done before I finally was able to repair it. Is still happily cranking away with the new owner.

Reviving an old thread......Just to clarify.......What was the application for this starter? I looked it up by the part number on Rockauto and it shows a picture of the 3 bolt. I am going to use a Powerstroke starter on my 4BT that is going in my '78 F150 and have determined that I can make the starter out of my '96 F350 Powerstroke work for it. I don't need the 3rd hole to bolt up to the Cummins bell housing and thought that the gear reduction unit might be even a better way to go. Just want to make sure I'm going to order the right one......TIA

Order for a 2003 PSD and it will be the better starter of the three made.

Not sure of its bolt pattern

Um, what? The model number for the TYC super duty starter is the same no matter what year regarding the 7.3

No idea what part number you were looking at, but the part number is TYC 106669 and it shows as the two bolt unit at Rock Auto.

The application I used to find that is a 2002 F-350 with the 7.3. Only the last few years of the 7.3 SuperDuty came with the 2 bolt starter and the last *full* year of the 7.3 was 2002, so if you select that year there's no chance you will get the similar-looking starter off the craptacular 6.0 by mistake.
