1984 Ford 460 EGR & Distributor vacuum control repair
Smog man says no vacuum at EGR hose. Removed EGR valve, carbon full on passenger side. Cleaned out all I could get with long screwdriver and awl. Still no vacuum. Is there anything else I might need to do other than replace the EGR valve ? Smog man says I may need to replace the distributor vacuum control on the distributor. Can that be replaced without removing the distributor. Are there any suggestions on how to fix without wasting time and unnecessary parts ?

On a 31 year old van replacing a few parts would be right in order with the scheme of life----nothing lasts forever.
I'm sure there's more than a few aftermarket supplies, either stock or improved performance type, that will have extensive parts selections and how-to advice or publications available. Even if not I'm reasonably certain the vacuum advance device can be replaced separately---I'd check with someone like NAPA etc.
You can also post your general question in the FTE sub-forum covering your engine. Just because its in a van doesn't mean the same issues haven't also been encountered by others somewhere along the year time line.
