TRANSMISSION/ENGINE SIZE MATCH UP?

TRANSMISSION/ENGINE SIZE MATCH UP?
Need to know if a transmission for a '99 Expedition 5.4liter, will work as a replacement transmission for a '99 Expedition 4.6?
This is just a pretty good guess right now, but when I seen the Expedition and asked what his transmission issues were he said it would only drive in reverse. So he had someone change the filter & fluid. So just curious I pulled the transmission dip stick to look at the fluid, I'm pretty sure the dip stick was covered with engine oil.
For comparison I pulled the engine dip stick and set them side by side.
What ******* did this? They were identical.
So what would be the next step here? Is the transmission ok?
