Barrett Jackson and Velocity Idiots

According to the tv commenters during the BJ auction tonight, think a 1955 F100 came originally with a tilt hood. I have heard so many incorrect things on BJ over the years. You would think these "car" people would know better.

I haven't watch more than 1 hr total of all combined auto auctions since they have appeared on tv - The only people that seem to know what they are doing are the big boobed females that are pushing their old men to bid more

BJ and "American Pickers" have screwed things royally. Now everything is worth "that much"
Have a friend that restored a Boss 429 Mustang...was going to get $500,000 at a BJ auction. Was offered $90k cash, turned it down, spent over $120k in restoration. Sold for $220K. By the time you figure listing fees, taxes, etc. He would have been way better off taking the $90k.

"Storage Wars" and other such shows have done a lot of damage to the Flea Market crowd as well. You used to pick up some really good deals at the local storage locker auctions. Now you can't even see what's in them over the crowd of people that show up, bid up, and shut up, without buying anything.

There is nothing REAL in "reality" TV. There is just a bunch of people that want to be famous, but work a lot cheaper than the real actors.

The striking writers opened this Pandora's Box of "entertainment" and now it can't be closed.

I have said the same thing about all the car shows like Counts Kustoms and Fast and Loud, etc. Now everybody wants to buy and sell cars and make big $$!! A true car guy knows that cars are done for the love of them. Anybody that expects to buy a car, fully restore it (PROPERLY, unlike they usually do on these shows) and make money in the end is sadly mistaken. To do these cars properly, there is going to be more money spent than can be gotten for them in the end.

Don't get me wrong, I am entertained by these shows, and like some of the ideas, but I feel that it has hurt the car industry for those of us that want a certain car, and don't have a million dollars to throw at it!

Now if we can only get the people who watch these shows to pay the kind of prices that Count's Kustoms and Richard charge we might break even

I was watching when the 55 went for $250k. They we to busy talking about the first time they got caught picking their noses and didn't realize that the price was going up that fast. Then came to as the truck was rolling off.

I have adopted a new attitude when I am out looking at car and truck projects. If the seller dares mention any type of tv programming to increase his asking price, I simply smile and walk for the truck. There is no sense competing with fantasy land. Anyone that truly has restored a classic knows it takes time and money to make it happen. That value is almost never repaid in a monetary sense.

I watched a few hours of BJ because I like seeing the oddball stuff but they need to get their facts straight.

I think the best way to watch any of these auctions is to tape them. Then you can fast forward to a car or truck you want to see. You can go thru four hours of junk in about 15 minutes it's great

For me, watching the auction is like watching an incredible car show. All of the cars are top notch and beautiful, and it's fun to see the crazy money some people have to spend.
