Is Ford Replacing All Their Gasoline V8s with EcoBoost?
Read it and weep! Here's the latest post from Chad Kirchner our reporter in Detroit this week:
Is Ford Replacing All Their Gasoline V8s with EcoBoost? - Ford Trucks
Do you think it can happen?

The GT has a purpose built V6 from scratch just keeping the same displacement. From what I understand the new engine is going to be used in Ford Racing especially at Le Mans. Apparently they (whoever makes regulations for European racing) made a rule saying naturally aspirated engines could not exceed 5.5L and forced induction engines of no larger than 4.0L.
So I guess unless Ford wanted to pull a rabbit from their hat and not drop in the 5.0L and cranked up the power they were just going to drop in a turbo V6.
He's food for thought Why Ferrari engineers don't like turbos

There will always be a place in my heart, and my garage for a v8, I love the sound and the thrust and it is an American thing, that said, I love my ford pick up with the ecoboost, runs circles around my old 5.4 v8, I think the v8 is here for a while and rumors of its demise are just that, rumors!

IMHO, the first car maker to eliminate the V-8 will be the first car maker to drive a nail in the coffin so to speak. Unless it becomes a Detroit three unilateral decision to eliminate the V-8, it ain't happenin'.
When I replace my wife's Expedition I can't even consider an ecoboost be it in a crossover or an F-150. Her driving is mainly in town with the rare freeway runs. She'd kill an ecoboost.

Overall, even with my bias aside, I do not for see the V8 fading away into complete obscurity anytime soon. I always advocate the power of choice...I think having the option of a Twin Turbo V6 and a Naturally Aspirated V8 is great, I'll be happy as long as Ford continues to offer verity in it's engine lineup.
Honestly I would love to see a next generation all aluminum F-150 Lightning that utilizes the 5.2L Flat Plane V8. That would be a sweet ride.
