I love the add that pops up here in the forum for Ultra premium calipers. I'm thinking cool they say they are powder coated already. Then you click the link and it shoots you to A1 Cardone's site, a known super shotty so called rebuilder. Seems to me that FTE should bite the hand that feeds with that one.

 

I always find the Redundancy in things such as "Ultra Premium" to be a good laugh.

If a double negative is in actuality a positive then is a double positive a negative.

I've had good and bad luck with A1-Cardone.

As far as I see it all parts suppliers anymore are just a crapshoot. Whatever happened to "With pride, done right here in the USA" from anyone?

 

The I ran through 3 A1 Cardone saginaw power steering pumps meant for a 1976: LTD/Mercury Marquis 351/400/460 with or without Hydro-Boost / Thunderbird/Continental Mark IV. This pump was for a saginaw conversion on my truck. The first two failed shortly after install. The third whined extremely loud untill it went in the trash.

I also had a master cylinder for my 74 F-250 4x4 that would never bleed this was returned.

Thank you for the offer of help but I have now resorted to buying newly manufactured power steering pumps, brake masters and calipers, water pumps, etc.

If the parts are truly of "the highest quality", why did they need to be remanufactured?

Parts don't go "bad", they just been good too long. Cardone is saying their rebuilt components is bestest.

 

Then it would have read...

"A1 CARDONE products are remanufactured to the highest quality in the automotive aftermarket"

Read the original a few more times. You'll see what I'm saying.

 

No, they are saying that they are "the" best among the remanufactured parts suppliers. Whether that's true, I dunno, but their claim seems clear. Parts wear, bushings and brushes, presumably they don't cut corners, e.g. clean it up and slap a coat of paint and call it good. Hm.

 

I think you're reading into it a little too much haha. They are saying their reman. parts are better than the next company's reman. parts.

Steering box is a good example. I can buy a reman. steering box for my F100 at the local parts store. All that's been done to it is painted and resealed. Or I can buy the high quality reman. unit from Redhead.

 

I certainly hope they have changed there ways from a paint and re box "rebuilder". I will be unlikely to try them out again, but someone else may give them a shot.

 

Well they are Ultra Premium, none of this Ordinary Premium or Extra Special Premium, no sir.

 

With a couple of my vehicles I'll get parts from ANYWHERE I can get them.

Finding things for a 61 Econoline pickup is NOT easy, also have a 68 Dodge A108 van that's a PITA for parts.

 

Parts have both dried up and are easier to get if that makes any sense. Cash for clunkers and high scrap prices melted down a lot of steel, and a lot of the old school junkyards, those guys are moving on too. But, the internet has made searching for parts very effective and comprehensive and the online specialty vendors know exactly what we need and strive to provide them, where some of the local parts places just seem to focus on squeegees and other doo-dads.
