I am new to this site, excited to be here though

I have a 2004 Ford F150 XLT extended cab truck, silver in color. It currently has chrome stick on rocker panels along the bottom of the truck. Well my fender area is starting to rust, and what I want to do is treat the area that is rusting so it doesnt spread then put fender trim on to cover it up. But I was wondering with the chrome rocker panels there already, if puting chrome fender trim on would be to much? Chromewise? I really want to take the existing rocker panels off and put black ones on with black fender trim, but I am worried where the existing rocker panels are that it may be rusted there as well. Anybody got any advice for me on this. I bought the truck for a pretty good price so hoping to do all my work on it DIY style. I have little to no experience so thats why I am wanting to learn.
