Any Ford design engineers here? Especially ones who designed the Ecoboost oil filter location?

Dealer change, right. Just had my dealer do my last oil change in my '02 5.4. Filter has a small leak. It never leaks when I do it meself. Knuckahaids.

A word of warning, I saw a v6 on a motor stand in Dumas Tx at the Ford dealership and I asked what the deal was. It was an ecoboost and they didn't change the oil soon enough. He claimed 10,000 mi was too long to wait.

According to the manual. For normal use it recommends 7500 to 10,000 miles. I have mine done every 5000. 10k just seems to long an interval to me.

It's because of the OLM that Ford says we can run up to 10K or when the OLM says to change now. However, the manual also states that of the OLM were to fail, adjust the dump cycle to 5K.

I'd feel better about a longer dump cycle if the oil pan held more oil.

Isn't the OLM programable? If we're talking about what I think you're referring to, I reset mine to 75% to shorten the reminder.

10000 miles, definitely too long between changes.

I change mine when I'about 20% left. It seems to be around 7,000 miles +/- a little.

Yeah this. I settled into a 6500 mile dump cycle. So I guess in theory I'm only using 65% of the oil's usable life. I'm good with that.

In your opinion perhaps. But without any sort of data you're just guessing.

I've done two 10,000 mile used oil analyses, one on my Mustang and the other on my wife's Sienna. In both cases the oil was still doing its job just fine. I sold my F150 before getting the chance to do another UOA, but I'd be surprised if they looked any worse than the other 10K UOAs I've done.

I would routinely go 10K on my previous vehicles using a full syn oil and a filter change at 5K and then top off the lost oil. If I were the type of guy that traded cars regularly or before they reached 100K miles then my maintenance may be a little less ****. But, I expect my vehicles to last 200K miles even I don't keep them for 200K miles.

I feel that Ford and the automotive industry in general is trying to lower the cost of ownership so much that they advertise some unrealistic maintenance cycles. Sorry, just my humble opinion.

Maybe this isn't so much about the engine as compared to the quality of oil available these days. I guess I'm kind of old school when it comes to oil changes. I tow from time to time so I feel better shorten the cycle.

I did the same thing and changed mine every 7,500 miles. I think the oil was good for longer than that, but it made me feel better.

Another blown egobust and the dealer blames not changing oil soon enough, seems fishy to me.
