WTH is this tool?

In also a member of a guitar-related forum on which someone posted the attached pic. Nobody can figure out what this thing is. Any ideas, or, better yet, a definitive answer?

My best guess would be that it is a compass..

Probably used to cut round holes or arcs in drywall or plaster

you are not even in the proper galaxy with That guess Tim.

this one is real easy, because i just used one last week.
i am sure you all have heard of a Finnegan pin regulator by now, rite?

well, this is a Finnegan pin rake. you use it to align all the Finnegan pins in proper order so the regulator can do it's thing.

Yeah...right.

It is for shaving ice from ice blocks.

The pin sticks to the ice and the "claw" shaves it. Hence, the pivot pins.

The top brass is made to fit your hand to grasp the unit and put a down- force on the ice block.

After a little bit of digging, it may be a line marking scribe for steel engraving. The flat edge would be held against the edge of the piece being worked, and the scribe tip, being brass, would leave a non-permanent yellow mark to follow when engraving. Maybe.

It works great, (as contraception anyway) once you get the condom on with that thing you are in too much pain to have sex...
