door ajar light stays on

Today, while I was washing the EX my "door ajar" dash indicator and interior lights came on and will not go out. I slammed all of the doors twice. I'm gonna try to WD-40 the latches tomorrow to see if maybe one has stuck. Is this a common problem or does anyone have any other quick fixes I can try?

Literally just had this happen. Wd40 and everything worked fine.

I did notice that I had a couple of bolts loose on the passenger side thing. Not the latch, but looks like an oval shaped pin... Thingy. One on each side of the glass, and two on the bottom on each door. I will take a picture of them so I feel less stupid. Lol

I think the barn door sensors are in there. I'll be checking mine out in the morning and making sure those aren't the culprits.

I've owned 4 X's (still have 3 at this point) SO I would not say this is a huge study BUT all 4 have the same issue at the back hatch glass. Until the other day the "slam technique" had always produced good results. In the cold weather it's been off & on so to speak. Used WD-40 on the rear latches & it seemed to have done the trick However time will tell.

On my 2005 Excursion, you can just cut the door ajar sensors, left and right of the back hatch glass and it disables the sensors all together. I read in another thread someone just un plugged them, but my hands are WAY too big to un plug them, so I snipped them. I put tape around them to keep them from grounding, but the back hatch is made mostly of fiberglass. As long as they don't touch, you are alright. (sorry I didn't credit you, pipe up if you know who you are. Once I find your thread, I'm going to rep the hell outta you.)

Easy fix if I decide I want it again, but I really doubt it. I open my back hatch and my lights stay off unless I turn the dome light on. I decided I liked the idea of having my back doors open without my dome lights on.

I had the same issue on my 2000. It turns out the rear hatch glass catches were a tad loose. I tightened up the little catch pieces that the latches on the glass lock onto when you close it the problem was solved.

Rear hatch has been my culprit too. Looks a lot more common than I would have thought. On occassion it has been my 5 year old daughter claiming that she couldn't shut her door. She's full of crap though, she can just about beat up her 8 year old brother when she's pissed!
