Truck got rear ended last night... F150 vs. Cobalt

Sitting at a red light, minding my own business and WHAM. Cobalt at 20-30MPH from behind. I don't even remember if the truck moved forward or not (foot was on brake at light). No injuries in either vehicle

Little old lady, maybe fell asleep at the wheel. Had witness and happened in an "at fault" state so. Had police come and collect info for report.

Unfortunately, the bumper pushed into the right side of the box where it wrapped around so that's dinged and scrapped. The right borla pipe was also bent, and of course, borla doesn't sell just that piece so I'll be fighting for a new kit to the tune of $1200.

I'm glad that I was in the truck and not on one of my bikes....

And the tin can:

Since it is there fault you should be able to settle with them for a new bumper and exhaust plus body work and paint.

Don't forget a rental and whatever time you need to turn the truck in.

glad no one was hurt.

Don't forget "loss of value".
They need to pay you for that.

My wife damaged a rental and we got to pay the damage, rent while it was being repaired and loss of value.

It was a rental.... you would think that would make it lose enough...

Most of them will give you a little something so they can close out any future medical claims.

Got hit by a Honda Civic when the woman driving it fell asleep. I don't have a picture of her car, but there was way more damage to it than the Cobolt that hit you...not much to my truck though

broke the trailer plug and scuffed up the hitch

I would ask or a new hitch. You don't know if it was compromised at all.

Don't over estimate the strength of your truck that's the result of a low car hitting and more or less going under.....that same car hitting above the bumper at 30 mph would've seriously jacked that bed and tailgate up......which is precisely why I prefer being up higher myself

Robb be sure to check the back of the cab for damage from the bed. You wouldn't believe how much these trucks flex in a crash. But the flex is designed to absorb the energy of the crash, resulting in less injury. And FWIW it looks as though that cobalt is junk. Those cars totaled out quick when they were new let alone a few years later.

P.S. How are you feeling?

Talk about junk, my poor SIL ran into the back of a Hyundai last night with 2011 Chevy Aveo. It looks like in Ins. company is going to scrap it. My initial guess on damage was about 3k, it seems the car is only worth $6500.

Rob, sorry to hijack. I'm glad you're feeling fine my friend. They'll get you all fixed up in a jiffy and rolling again.

Thanks for the reminder on the rental, that will need to be factored in.

Hope that everyone was ok. It's amazing how tough these trucks are

Agree 100%. I drove around a little Mazda 6 for a while.. (don't ask). And was pumped to get back into a truck.

Good point. The adjuster is coming out today, I'll be sure to look there also.

Feeling alright today, thanks for asking. I just hope the lady that hit me is OK. She was about 1000 years old and in a daze after the accident.

Tim, hope that your SIL is ok!! Accidents are never fun. Speaking of the pricing, I called Borla and they will not sell just the right hand pipe, you have to buy the whole kit. I printed out the slip from their website with quote for $1200.

Thanks for the kind words sir.

Thanks Tom. Ya a bummer for sure, but very glad that no one was hurt. I really expected to get to the Cobalt and see blood after that impact.

Good to see everyone is ok. Fitting end for a Chevy, at the hands of a Ford Sorry couldn't resist. Agreed with getting it checked out real good, never know what might be tweaked. And a Mazda 6? What's up with that lol

I know, I know. It was about 3 years ago when I still had my OBS PSD. I was commuting a lot for work (800+ miles a week). Didn't want to put the additional wear and tear on the truck (and the fuel expenses..) so I bought a beater. Drove the wheels off it for a year, then took a new job requiring less travel and closer to home. Was able to pick up the current truck. Sold the Mazda to my sister and she's still driving the wheels off it.

Just for what it's worth, the Mazda 6 was made at the Flat Rock plant right next to the Ford Mustang.

Robbgt,

I noticed you are from MA. If you go after the other persons insurance for a rental because you were rear ended, you can demand the same vehicle. A number of years ago my wife was rear ended in our Expedition and I insisted on an expedition for a rental car because we had a long trip coming up while ours was in the shop. The insurance co hemmed and hawed but eventually they gave me one. You might be able to test drive a 2015 while your truck is being repaired.
