How would I get to the plug? And would I have to replace the whole thing?

disconnect the battery.reach up under the dash and feel the headlight switch. there is a button on it. pull the **** out as you are pushing the button in. you will feel the button go in a little further, and the **** and shaft will come out of the switch.
then you can unscrew the nut holding the switch to the dash.
then pull the switch out from behind the dash.
once out of the dash you can separate the switch from the plug and inspect both.
if either one is melted replace both. any good auto parts store will have them. the plug comes with between 6 and 12 inches of wire on it. just cut the old one off as close to the plug as you can get, and connect the new one. i like to solder the connections and use heat shrink tubing over the solder joint to seal it .

But whatever you do, please don't use wire nuts, or the even worse, the twist and tape method. Either of these will guarantee troubles further down the road.
