Swapping engines

I have a 96 f150 in line 6 4.9, and I'm wanting to swap it for a 5.0 crate engine, I have a manual tranny in it and I'm wanting to to swap it out for an automatic, I've already got it picked out. I was wondering where I could find that engine??

If you're actually looking for a crate engine, check out Summit Racing or another reputable seller. It won't be cheap.

If you're looking for a good used engine, try your local classifieds, Craigslist, or Ebay. Do whatever it takes to make sure the engine runs nicely before you buy! Also, don't get in a hurry to find something. I see "running" 5.0's (with like 150k miles) on Craigslist in my area as cheap as $500.

Sell your truck and buy a 5.0 or better yet a 5.8 truck.

96 is ODBII if I'm not mistaken and so there's more involved than just bolting in a new engine and transmission. It's not impossible, but you'll need the engine, trans and the correct computer for it. There may be harness and mount differences. Best to have a donor and with all that's involved just buy a nice 96 with everything you want and sell your truck. Drive the one you have for now till you find the new one if you can afford it.

holy cow yeah if you are wanting to go fuel injected just buy a new truck. i was thinking a carb set up. I went from a 302 to a 351 and had to have a $500 custom chip made just to make it run right.
