Carb recommendation for 460

Have mild rv cam, lifters and edlebrock intake manifold. Just looking for a good carb. Can't afford the $500 carbs. Thanks.

I'm running a 950cfm Pro Systems (Holley based) on the 460 in my 79. It's mostly a dedicated wheeler, P.S. custom builds carburetors to fit the exact application the customer desires. If your engine is mostly stock I would say you would want to start with a 750cfm. If it's mainly street driven I'd say go for a standard issue Edelbrock or Holley. Holleys are easier to tune, Edelbrocks are decent I've ran both.

I started with a 750 Edelbrock on mine it ran okay if you babied it. Hard acceleration above 3,000 rpm it fell right on its face. I have been told by several hot rodders, a 460 Ford will take as much carb as you want to feed it. Even a relatively stock 460 will most likely be happy with an 850 on top.

I had an 830, and the truck made a lot more power, but got 2-3 mpg. 6 mpg is bad enough for a daily driver, so it was switched back.

Yah I get around 6 mpg with mine running a 950, it's a pig but it goes like the dickens! Has no trouble breaking the 37" swampers loose on the pavement, for a 6,000+ lb rig thats impressive. It's pretty bad I get better mileage trailering it to the wheeling spot versus driving it!
