gas gauge adjustment

gas gauge adjustment

hello friends ,I have a 47 ford truck ,and installed a new thigamagige in the gas tank ,well when the tank is empty ,the gauge shows a 1/4 tank of gas ,so do I just bend that arm some ,and which way do I bend it,thanks Bill

Bend it up. But I like to hook the sender up and do a sweep with it out of the tank just to see how well the whole thing functions. Ford's fuel gauges have been historically inaccurate. I have done the arm bending routine only to find there was no perfect setting, strike a happy medium is the best you can hope for in most cases.

Instead of bending anything look for adjustment set screw on the arm junction for just this purpose. If it's already resting on the lower stop, how would bending the arm help?

If it had a lower stop and was setting on it, then you really couldn't make the gauge read less but you could still bend the arm to make it come off empty sooner.

I'd just calibrate it so it reads correctly, or near enough.
