7.3L Powerstroke on a 2005 F250?

I used to have a 2005 6.0L F350 when I was in Canada. I moved to Australia and I have just saw something weird. There was a 2005 F250, according to what the sales man was claiming to be, for sale in a Ford dealership. It comes with a 7.3L powerstroke and 4 speed auto tran. This looks like a pre early 2003 model to me but this sales man said it was because there was a different between the ones selling in North America and Australia. He said the super duties were 7.3L all the way untill 2008. Does anyone know anything about this?

Welcome to FTE WallyWei.

Yes, the Austalian Super Duty trucks stayed with the 7.3L engine and 4R100 trans a lot longer.

US/Canada trucks are not always the same as the Super Duty trucks in the rest of the world.

Then is the 7.3L with 4 speed better comparing to the 6.0L and 5 speed?

Do you know why Super Duties were sold twice the price as they were in North America?

6.0 was brought out to satisfy emissions, but in Australia they didn't have as stringent emissions so they kept the 7.3 going.

Cost difference is partly due to exchange rates being different.

Even it was because the exchange rate of the dollars, it still doesn't explain why a 2005 F250 worth $64,000in Astralia.

If the truck was imported down under, you need to factor in customs duty. I don't know how much.

Yeah you're right... I was thinking about that too. But one the other hand for the brand new ones it almost doubled and for this 2005 F250 for example, it tripled. I believe you can get a 2005 F250 in good condition for $20,000 or a bad condition for less than $10,000 in Canada.

Supply and demand has a lot to do with it too. I spent two weeks in Australia and anytime I mentioned I was from the US the response I got was "you must drive one of those huge trucks like an f150" and they were shocked when I said I drove a 250. At least in the area I was in, big trucks were frowned upon.

You're definitely right. Australia seems similar to the North America which has lots of farms and ranches, but everyone seems happy enough just to drive the smaller trucks like the Ranger and Colorado. These things only have like not even one ton of payload and 2 tons of towing capacity but they are still happy with it. It just doesn't make sence.

I just saw a 1994 F350 asking for $30,000. If I can get that big blue truck in the "Beer for My Horse" of Toby Keith, I might think about it.

Might the possibility of 7.3L continuation down under also be related to quality of fuel?

I'm sure I read somewhere that the 6.0L needs cleaner fuel in order to keep it running properly. European diesel was cleaner than that in the States, or at least it was at one time. If fuel quality was known to be an issue, perhaps that coulda figured into Ford's decision to keep it running??

Maybe they don't have ULSD down under?
