update

Just ordered materials from Napa. Paint is called cadet blue. Its made by crossfire. Ive never heard of it but he says all the body shops in town use it. At 399 dollars a gal, it better be good! 2 quarts of reducer and a gal of primer plus hardener stuff. Hopefully my diy project goes right. Any suggestions anyone has will be appreciated. .

I hope your project goes well and keep us updated. I repainted mine a couple years ago and feel like it went well. The entire project was documented in this link:

Hopefully you will find some of it useful.

To Josh,

Man, it looks great ! I gotta have 5 posts (?) before i can post a picture. Ive been trying to put the starting pics on, but no luck yet. Im painting all a solid color. Ill trim it out with some chrome mirrors, wheels. It came factory with aluminum running boards so ill polish them up. What did you do with the spare tire bracket? Paint gloss or matte finish?

I chose a gloss black for the accessories, although semi-gloss might have been more accurate. I'm looking forward to seeing those pictures once you're able.

Hey Josh or anyone with knowledge, ...

Can I put fancy 17" rims with a lower profile tire on my 89 B2 restore? Helo brand makes a set that I want. How do I determine the offset because the 4 wheel drive hub thing sticks out so far. I want to be able to put the center cap back on the wheels. Im like a week away from ordering them so please let me know what I need. P.S. ...I will never drive off road...

TheRangerStation has a really good tech library. This link might be helpful:

The Ford Ranger/Bronco II Wheel Fitment Guide To Measuring Wheels

I would think if you called Helo with that information they could make a recommendation for you.

Your Bronco II looks like a great starting point. I don't see any rust!

tear down

Hey Josh. .. No rust at all ! Shes a tennesse girl. I dont think its ever been out of the state. Its got one small dent on pass door that i think i can push out when door panel comes off. Also on top of the bracket on the tire carrier, it looks like fiberglass is comming loose. Ill strengthen it from the inside and patch it up. I couldnt ask for a better car for my first project.

week 1

Clear coat is comming off pretty good. I gotta confess.. this was a much bigger project than i thought. So.. I turned to our local high school auto body class to get her finished. These kids are working there behinds off doing the very best they can do. With the instructor they got, it will be an A+ job.!!

Nice score on the B2!

I had one a long time ago, and I'd love to find a decent one to fix up and drive.

Good luck on the build.

ready for color

Shes in the paint booth ready to go. They are using the Dupont chromasystem for the base color and the clear. I am so excited about getting it finished. Ive got my "box" full of LED bulbs, a new radio, new mirrors, euro tail lights, new grill....everything you can think of !
