About to buy a 91 f150. What should I look for?
I've done the research and tomorrow Im going to go check out a 1991 f150 5.8 Automatic with 119k Miles. I figured this would be the best place to ask what I should look for.
What are the problem areas? Assuming it runs okay, what should i be wary of. or what specific areas should I look for problems.
Thank you for any input you guys can give.

Just my $.02 but here is what I would look for beyond the normal wear and tear:
1. Transmission shifting issues. The E4OD is a good tranny when all the is functioning right. If there is a sensor that has gone bad or it hasn't been serviced in a really long time, it could be a potential frustration. Take a small wire with you and check the computer codes to see if there are or have been any issues.
2. Wandering and sloppy steering could be caused by multiple things. In some cases it could be worn tie rod ends. In other cases (mine) it could be a shot steering box, broken crossmember/frame rivet, or radius arm and axle pivot bushings. All are pretty low cost repairs but it's better to pinpoint exactly what it is.
3. If equipped with dual tanks, make sure both are functioning properly.

Rust will always start from the inside out.
5/Fluid leaks-especially power steering, gas tank(s), and rusting thru oil pan.

Pull codes. Here's how to do it without a reader: Fuel Injection Technical Library » How To Run a Self-Test
If there are no codes other than the 11 codes, check the battery to see if it looks like the cable(s) have been pulled off recently. Take it for a 10 or 15 mile test drive and check codes again.
Just because there are codes doesn't mean you shouldn't buy it. The codes will give you an indication if anything is amiss and what the likely repair paths will be.

I said this:
"It does have an erg code,
It does have sloppy steering
It doesn't like to downshift
It has no ***** at all"
Some simple sleuthing...
Steering had a plastic sleeve that had come out.. solved that problem..
Cruise control was keeping the pedal from going all the way down...
Solved the rest of the problems...lol..
