Looking For Advice

Hey. I'm a FORD guy, always have been. I currently have a 2007 F350 King Ranch V10. I bought the gas engine cuz I BLEW-UP a 2006 F350 Amarillo 6.0 Ltr & a 2005 F350 lariat 6.0. Absolutely loved my 2003 F350 Lariat LE 7.3 ltr.
I'm looking at trying the 6.4 ltr. I have found a 2008 F350 Lariat 6.4 with 270,00 KM. and a 2009 F350 XLT with 240,000 KM. Both seem to have some chip (or something) done to them. All of my previous trucks were chipped, exhaust etc. I love pulling and kicking Chevy asses! My questions are, what do I look for? How do I tell if it's had CAM or Lifter work?
Ant advise?
Cheers!
Drew

Hi Drew, welcome to FTE!

Don't take it the wrong way, but from the sounds of it you'll find a way to blow it up regardless of which exact truck you buy. Both the trucks you listed could be reliable if properly cared for and maintained, but probably not if you're cranking them up and racing them.

I don't know of a good way to tell if it's had major work. The entire engine comes apart to pull the cam, so you can bet that short of a rebuild the cam is original. I personally wouldn't touch a truck that's been tuned.

I couldn't agree more with what Tom said. These are trucks that weigh close to two tons and are meant for towing and working, not racing. I would keep the v10 and buy something made for racing, get a lightning, trade the truck in on something made for racing, etc(any option other than racing a truck not meant to be raced).
