Battery Drain

Battery Drain
Though I would throw this in there since I used search and found a few hits but not in my case. Last week went to crank the Bronco(1992)and had no power jumped the truck off checking the battery / alternator and was reading 14.35 volts . recharged the battery and after sitting over night it was ok at 5 am . Came home from work to find it was completely drained again. When I got time (few days later) I found the wires (2 hot to alternator ) and the white wire (single wire to alt) were touching .Hot wire (black orange stripe),white, next wire over which had a crack in it touching each other . After replacing both, all fixed . Any one know what the white wire does for this alternator. thanks TR (I see it in the Haynes with no explanation)

My '95 electrical & vacuum t/s manual shows a white wire with black stripes used as feedback voltage to turn off the charge indicator.
I do not see a solid white wire in the charging system or the power distribution system (only glanced at that one).
Where does the white wire go, e.g. from alt to where?
