2002 5.4L F150 Bad Fuel Pump?

Hi everyone, Ive been coming to this site for years and reading these forums and finally decided to make a profile and post a problem that I am stumped on.

Last week my 2002 5.4L f150 4x4 (125,000 miles) wouldnt start until the 4th or 5th try then it ran fine with no change in driving or in mpg. then a few days later it happened again, then another few days and it just didnt start at all. Battery and alternator are fine but I noticed the fuel pump wasnt turning on. So I checked the fuses and relays, all good. Next I dropped the tank and swapped out the fuel pump (used an Airtex) and I also replaced the fuel filter. Truck started but it sounds like it is starving for fuel and it is idling very rough and it dies after about 5-10 seconds (with a few misfires and backfires). I thought it was a bad pump so I dropped the tank AGAIN and put in a new pump (still an Airtex). Started it up and I still have the same problem. I checked the pressure at the rail and it is getting good pressure.

I am not sure what to go after next! Any help would be greatly appreciated

What pressure did you measure using a gage?
Good luck.

Any chance you got a load of water in the gas?
Try one bottle of dry gas and give it awhile to work.
Next, are there any codes set?
Good luck.
