Gary I own a patent on that crossmember design. I expect a check in the mail you too Nick. Its a simple, plenty strong and easy to make. Glad it helped you out a little

Hi guys,
Here is more progress - pics of my gas tank install. Everything is just tacked in and will finish weld everything tomorrow. I used the same tank setup as drpTop70ss. I really liked his setup since it was a good price, I am running EFI, and I wanted the filler to come out the driver side. The only differences from his setup is I chose to mount mine slightly different. I ended up making brackets for the straps out of 1/8 plate and a 5/16 rod (see pics). This allows the straps to swing into place with the adjustment on the axle side.

I never notched a frame before but it came out pretty good I think. I was able to bend the notch plate over some pipe for a tight fit. I also made a boxing plate to reinforce that area.

I mocked up my bed assembly and have about 1/2 inch clearance from the bed wood to the large vent tube on the sending unit. I am debating on installing some type of brace across the tank to protect it from the bed wood sagging and possibly hitting the tank. I don't think it would hurt but it may not be needed....

Im very pleased to see that you have started a build thread. Like most, I have seen some of your progress as Ax has shared some of the techniques used on it for teaching purposes. Great build thread Gary, Im going to enjoy it as you progress.

It is from a 95 chevy van :-). I used the same tank as drptop70ss. The tank, sending unit, and straps was less than 200 shipped from RockAuto. It fits real good. From what I seen for under bed tanks, most required to fill through the bed. I didn't like that so when I seen this tank I knew it was going to be an ideal option for me. I might add a filler on the fender or maybe out the back some how.

I used a Bronco tank for mine, I have a friend who is looking for a tank that will work for his F-1, but he put his springs right under the frame rails and was wondering if the tank you have is an option for him.

Thanks! In the past I haven't posted to my thread as much as I'd like to. I figured it would be a dup post since Ax shared our work as you mentioned. Now that Ax is no longer working with me I will be posting more to share for others and to document my build. I'm excited, motivated, and determined to fire my engine this year!

Let me know if I can take any more pictures or measurements to help.

Just wondering how much the welded seam sits under the frame and if you think it could be bent enough to clear the thickness of the frame.. his springs are directly under the frame rails.

I actually tried to bend the tank edges and slide the tank into the frame rails at at angle. Once in place it rested on the inside rails about 1/4 on each side. I aborted that idea because of clearance issues with the bed. If your buddy raised his bed a little, it might work for him.

With it mounted under the frame there is about 1/4 -1/2 on each side. The welded seam is under the rails on both sides.

Thanks Gary, I'll pass that info past him and let him decide what he would like to do. You've been very helpful.
