I did not read it all I knew what the intent was all about testing un used lubricants instead of actual real world testing.

wear rates after the lubricant is being used is the only results I value, not this pie in the sky debate

This is exactly why I no longer care about oil......It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to prove that poor oil was the cause of engine failure, your bearings crap out it's possible you had a bad batch, you got the engine hot, you got a bad filter, you never changed the filter...... everyone worries so much about their oil yet engine failures due to the "wrong" oil is rarely ever heard of, and almost never proved.


Best advice for a diesel owner............ put oil in it and run it HARD.....babying a diesel is just asking for problems.

not really, none of my diesels ever idle more then 5 minutes. Idling just wet stacks everything...Get in an drive it, fastest way to warm them up.

Gotcha

I always let mine get the oil pumping for a couple minutes before ever moving, specifically in the winter.

I don't hard load them till theres a little heat in the engine, I've always been more concerned about having oil in the bearings more so than wet stacking. I always make sure to "blow em out" good though once things get moving

How long you idle it is completely irrelevant to how long you wait to run it hard.

I would have to argue that if you run the engine at fuel cut off immediately after start up on a sub freezing day that the engine longevity may be diminished

i fire it up cold and drive very slowly to the deli 3 blocks away on the highway.
then i let it warm up while i get my coffee, paper, and lunch.
that takes 3-5 minutes.
by then it is warm enough to drive out on the highway.

If its cold like it has been recently (20 deg F and below) I usually wait til the fast idle shuts off, then drive slow for the 2 miles it takes to get to the main drag, then its normal crusing speeds (55-60)

IDK if it's overkill or not (probably) but I'm usually not in a hurry when I'm driving one of the two, guess thats why my IDI's are a good fit

I should have stated that better....NO I do not get on the hwy and floor it cold. Here in the frozen north it has been -15 every morning for the last week, I try not to rev it much past 1500-1700 till it's warmed up a bit.
