Yea my wife can be a real pain in the a$$... sorry I couldn't resist. Just kidding though she is wonderful. Tell us more about your truck, is it an auto, 4x4, limited slip, gear ratio... What were you doing when it cratered? I've chipped a diff before, sometimes it's just a defective part from the factory or maybe it had a bearing failure. Have you tried searching the forum, try the diesel section too...

sorry djr17 ive been tweaked over this rear all weekend. the truck is a 01 f-250 quad cab shortbed, auto ,4x4, 3.73, bone stock.
the rear never came apart, i had a nasty clunk when i would take off, when i got under it noticed the shaft would make a full rotation before it would break the wheels loose.dealer confirmed and told me it was a one day job, now monday will be a week and a day. I just took a ride over to the dealer too look see , and they dont even have the center section in yet, dealers suck!!!

Could be that they are having problems getting parts. Is it a dually?

Be aware that if the gears or bearings went, there will be metal all through the housing, all the way out to the wheel bearings. It could be they got into it, saw the contamination and are waiting for an entire rear, or that they need all the bearings too...

If it's warranty, they generally don't let you know anything. If you are paying for it, then they owe you an explanation. ASK either way!

no its not a dually, and yes the bearings were chewwed, but they knew this back in the end of june when they diagnosed, and it is warrentee, so i think once they got the ok they figuired it was money in the bank and they can take there time

Sounds like they are doing the entire rear housing, all the way to the flanges. $3500 sounds like a full rear installed. Couldn't be just bearings and gears, it would only be around $1500, I would think.
