Where are ground straps?

Where are the ground straps on my 01 V-10 2wd?

I know about the one between the -battery terminal and fender. There should be one between the engine and chassis, and chassis to frame. It is throwing a weird transmission code and burns out a coil 2-3 times a year.

I suspect a weak ground could be causing my coil problems.

Mine is a 4wd but one to the firewall behind the battery and one on the frame rail passenger side just behind the wheel, it's about a ft behind where the front sway bar mounts to the frame rail. There may be others but those are the two I know for sure. I'd check the frame rail one for sure, they take some abuse from road salt.

This. Plus over time dirt and vibration can loosen anything

Mine has been at the mechanics for 2 weeks. Staling and throwing a transmission output shaft sensor code. I specifically asked him to check the grounds. He never did. Instead he was using it to run his errands trying to get it to stall. He already replaced the idle air controller and wanted to replace the output sensor. After he finally ran it out of gas, I stopped by today to fill it up. On a whim, I looked for the frame to chassis ground It was easy to see the ground strap was in bad shape. It was green, and came apart on manual manipulation. The frame was very rusty at the connection points. It is too cold for me to work on it, so I took it to my handyman to replace that ground and to replace # 6 coil.

I think I've found the cause of my chronic coil failure issue. Next, I'm going to check the engine to firewall ground.

Anyone know where that one is?

My bad ground was a painted negative battery terminal clamp that Wal-Mart installed when they replaced my battery. The - post to chassis wire was making contact with a painted portion of the clamp and not passing enough current. I replaced it with an unpainted lead terminal clamp and it cured the PO720.

I was blowing a lot of coils before the battery replacement. I attribute that to the horrible condition of the stock clamps. They has deteriorated to almost nothing due to corrosion.

Sounds like you identified another problem too ... you need a new mechanic.

Officer, I specifically came here to talk to him. Instead I let him run into my tire iron repeatedly and I took the money from his wallet for safe keeping until he regained consciousness. Also his wife fell on my "man bits" a whole lot too but that's not important, she went through a carton of smokes afterwards and said I could come back whenever
