Odometer memory stored where?

I bought a '95 F=150 a few years ago with the speedo and odometer not working. I have no idea how many miles are on the vehicle. All I know is it runs great, no smoke and pretty good mileage. We installed a instrument cluster from a wreck and have the speedometer again. The odometer reads 335,000.

Is the mileage stored on the vehicle's computer or in the instrument itself? Does this truck really have that many miles? If so, truly impressive!

By the way, my regular truck is a 2002 F-250 Lariat with a 7.3. I have trouble choosing between the two... both are fantastic trucks. Oh, and the diesel does have 337,000 miles on the clock. Most of those miles were running veg oil.

The mileage must be stored on the cluster. I recently replaced the cluster in my '94 and lost about 80,000 miles.

Mileage is stored in a chip on the PSOM (Programmable Speedometer/Odometer Module) board, which is located on the back of the speedometer gauge face.

Thanks. I had a feeling this truck didn't have that many miles.

I can imagine when I let someone borrow it. It's a really tight, smooth running truck. When they look down and see over 300,000 miles, they'll be truly amazed.

The odometer mileage is stored in the PSOM that is connected on the back of the cluster. The EPROM can be swapped to restore the actual mileage.
