How can I modify 2004 radio for aux input?
I got an 04 F350 a few days ago, just a basic work truck. It has the basic AM/FM Ford radio, no tape or CD. I would rather listen to my exhaust noise than FM radio.
I would love to add an auxiliary input for my phone on this radio. I didn't think it was possible until I saw this:
Ford AM/FM Radio with AUX [FO014] : Factory Radio Service, Car Factory Radio Services
This company will add it to that radio for $55. Does anybody know how they are doing this? Where are they connecting the wires inside?
It's a cool idea but that crappy old radio isn't worth $55, I would just get something else if I spent that much.

I suspect if you had the schematic of the radio, you could find where to add the wiring to accept an aux jack but by the time you paid for schematic and had time to gather up the other parts and install it, you would have spent more than $55 in travel time, labor and parts.
why no get a cheap aftermarket radio?....check eBay....some have usb, sd and audio jack as inputs.

Yes you can do it yourself. I did it to my 2003, years ago, so bear with me.
You need a adapter that plugs into the Antenna jack on the back of the Radio. Once installed, you tune the radio to a "certain" station, per the instructions and then plug your I-pod, Phone, or whatever in the second jack in the adapter, and you can stream music thru the truck radio. I used my for my portable Sirius Radio I had.
I don't recall where I got mine or what I paid. But "ONE" like this should work, and it's only $25
Radio Shack, or a local Car audio place my have them too.

There is nothing wrong with asking. Obviously somebody else figured it out, it's not that unlikely that somebody on a forum somewhere also already did it for free. It wouldn't cost me a dime if I just knew where the wires hooked up.
I think having a direct aux. input would be better quality than an FM modulator. I've never had good luck with those in the past.

I had the FM Modulator that relied on broadcast signals before I install this type, and YES it sucked.

I bought a radio from ebay and replaced the plain AM/AM in my 2007 Crown Vic police interceptor. The guy even took my old radio in for a $10 core, so I had $79 into it and one less piece of junk laying around the garage. He simply refurbishes and fits older radios with an auxiliary jack. I've used it with an iPod or the music stored on an iPhone.
If you have the radio removal tool, it takes about a minute to remove the old and install the new. There's something to be said for quick & easy installation and still having a factory radio - especially for a work truck. My Crown Vic is a winter beater to take the salt and save miles on my 2014 F250, so I wasn't into spending much money or spending an afternoon installing aftermarket. I might do the same thing this spring to my 2001 F450 bucket truck when I reopen the business.
Pop your old radio out and take down the numbers on it. Contact this seller on ebay and he'll tell you what you can use. He replied to me pretty quickly.
Here's the radio I bought, I bet it would pop right into your truck. You may not want cassette, but I bet you could get a unit with CD player.

If you install one of these PAC adapters you will have direct input to the AUX.

I'm probably being way too picky given the quality of the radio in the first place.
