Hay are you cross border poaching my truck parts? lol JK I currently have 4, and am only using 2 of them. The other 2 are slotted for patterns. One for a 76-early 77 and one for a 78/79. So I figured I would let that one pass. lol

Phil, Thanks for the compliment! The truck turned out better than I originally planned!! OCD kicked in I guess haha! Anyways, the paint codes: For the black=Dupont 99, PPG9300 and for the silver= Dupont 45177 (GM metallic med. flake), PPG3076 (medium flake).

Yes I got the lift kit on a few months back. Just never took any good pics of it! I put a set of 35" BFG's AT tires on...I had to add 2.5" to my sway bar links because they were rubbing my leaf springs and didn't let the sway bar sit level/parallel. I just cut the links in half and welded in a 2.5" piece of bar stock. Then primed and painted them, look like new ones!

Scott,

What do you think of the ride quality before the lift and now after?

What is your opinion on the springs - i assume it came with front and rear?

How many leafs in the front and rear packs?

Can you take a measurement for me?

Say from center of front hub to bottom of fender lip?

I currently have about 3" lift and 35's and during turning, the tire edge is a little closer than I would like to the fender lip.

(like in this pic below)

I am considering either a set of new highboy springs or possibly a softride kit. (my buddy has a 6" softride kit and I can tell you there is nothing soft about it.)

Also do the springs have teflon pads between each leaf or is it steel on steel?

To be completely honest, it rode pretty smooth for a 1-ton 4x4 before I put the 4" Skyjacker softride on! Now it rides more like a 1-ton 4x4, a little stiffer, not horrible but I'm not sure where Skyjacker came up with the name Softride!!?? I only got new springs for the front, and blocks for the rear. The spring packs came with 6-leafs. From the center of the lockout hub to bottom of the fender=27". The leafs are steel to steel. My overall opinion of the lift---it's a very good quality lift, easy to install, with a ride quality of 7 out of 10 (IMO). The kit also came with an adjustable drag link, 4 skyjacker 8000 shocks, and a stabilizer kit. IIRC the cost was around $800 (on sale).

I have another 79 F350 4x4 SC camper special lariat, that I am planning to do a mild resto on sometime soon and I think I am going to use Hi-boy front springs and Super Duty rear springs! My buddy went this way on his 79 F350 4x4 RC and it rides amazing. Plus, my brother has a few hi-boy parts trucks that I can steal the springs from!!

Hope this help!!

PS--nice ride you have there!!

Those trucks are awesome, I,m especially fond of short boxes myself. Just a ? for you about the tires are they 35/12.50/ 16. The reson I ask is I have 315/75/16 on my truck, but they only measure 34" tall and that extra 1" would be nice. Thanks.

Many thanks,
I'm doing a complete frame-off job off myself with almost only NOS parts and everything is number matching (except for the paint colors). The final result will be a carbon copy of your truck but on a regular cab version ... It will be really nice when completed ...
Thanks again,
Phil

Thanks.

My truck measured at 24" with add a leafs. I used a 3" drop pitman arm and it is pretty much on the money with the knuckle steering arm. I have a feeling yours is closer to a 6" lift?

I am going to call Michigan spring next week and see if their highboy springs come with delrin pads or are steel on steel.

I took some more measurements this morning for you with the lights on in the shop! My F350 from the middle of the lockout to bottom of the fender=26.50" and rear measures=26"...I've only put about 100 miles on the truck since I put the lift on so it will settle some, so it should be close to 26". Now, I took the same measurements off another 79 F350, completely stock and got these. Front=22" & rear=23"...Then, I took measurements off my 79 F150 with a 3" lift and got these numbers. Front=24.5" and rear=24.5" then a completely stock 79 bronco. Front=20.25" and rear=21" And another 79 bronco with 6" lift. Front=26.5" and rear=26.75"

I verified the part# that I ordered and received (SKY-F749K-H) which clearly states it's a 4" lift...!!??

Thanks for the data points.

I have a friend with the skyjacker 6" kit on his 79 F250 I will ask him to take the same measurement for fun.

I woudl expect yours would drop some (1/2"?) with some miles which would take it to 4" lift from your stock truck. I think the 1 ton trucks still had 2 leafs in the front liek the 3/4 ton?

Maybe mine is closer to 2" lift then.

I have never had a stock height truck before so thanks for providing the baseline.

(Now we need someone to post up their stock highboy measurement)
