Frustrated Tires

Hello again,

So down to the simple question. Will a 12 inch wide tire fit on a stock rim? My stock size is 275/70/18.

I would like to put 305/65/18's on it. More specifically BF Goodrich TA K/O's. Anyone have experience putting a 12 inch tire on a stock rim?

Thanks in advance

275/70-18 is 10.8 inches wide so moving up to 305/65-18 is only a 1.2 inch gain which shouldn't be a problem.

No rubbing at lock? Has anyone done 325-65 18's? The 305's are 34 inches and the 325's are 35 inches.

Thanks in advance.

The 325's are 34.6x12.8 so the height wouldn't be a problem but 12.8 is getting a bit wide for a stock wheel and may rub on the inside at full lock. I am running 285/75-18 which are 34.8x11.2 and I can just fit my hand behind them at full lock. Unless your running sand a 13" wide tire is not a good choice in my opinion. Much better traction on snow, ice, mud, rain and about anywhere else with a narrower tire. I really like the 285/75-18 size. Tall and narrow at 35x11 give or take 0.2.

The thing is, I am really stuck on a certain tire. I really like BF Goodrich T/A KO's. Which they don't make in a 285/75 R18. Only a 305/65/18 or 325/65/18. The only tires I can find in that size are two sets of toyo open countries, A/T and M/T, Maxxis M/T's, and Goodyear Wrangler M/TR's with Kevlar. I have no experience with any of those tires. Anyone got an opinion or two about them?

Toyo makes a really good tire (IMO) - I ran a set of 35X12.5R17 Open Country MT's on my 2008 F250 diesel and loved them. At about 50,000 miles (I'm sure they would have lasted longer if I hadn't been burn-out happy for a while), I replaced them with 37X13.5R17 Open Country MT's. They rode smoothly and were really quiet for a tire with an aggressive tread. The truck had 89,000 on it when I traded it in for my 2015 F350 and the tires still had better than 50% tread left. They were great on the road, in snow and where I used them most - beach sand! I aired down to about 20 lbs for just the truck and 30/35 with the camper on. Floated over the sand like smooth tires would - no digging in or beach damage. I've also heard great reports on their new Open Country AT2 tire... Hope this helps!

Years ago I ran the BFG T/A and really liked them but like the Toyo's much better. Ran a set of Toyo MT on my 96' F350 from 2007 until the spring of 2014 and then replaced them with Toyo AT. Was happy with the MT for all conditions and the tread wear was acceptable. Once I replaced them with the AT II I was even happier as the road noise is gone, they don't freeze square(the MT was a bit bumpy for a first few miles at -40°)and the truck handles better. I also installed the Toyo AT II on my new 2015 F350 a couple of weeks ago and really like how they are hooking up on the snow and ice. I ran the BFG AT on a excursion, f250 and bronco and from what I can recall they didn't hook up near as well as the new Toyo AT. I did have the Toyo's siped which helps with winter traction. As far as the Goodyears I will pass, tried them and didn't like them as they seem to be too hard for good winter traction.
