Salvage PCM's, Calibration Codes, and Compatability
If anyone can offer any insight into this issue it would be really helpful.
A 1988 F-350 with 460 is nearby and apparently hasn't been scavenged yet.
Is a PCM from a 1988 fuel-injected 460 compatible with a 1989 fuel-injected 460?
Do calibration codes have to match on the door stickers?
Do transmissions and rear ends factor in to compatibility?
The transmission code on the donor truck's sticker is a (K).
Axle code is (49) that is a 3.55.
Thanks,

Calibration codes do not have to match exactly, and axle ratios and transmissions won't matter either except when the truck has a computer controlled trans.. E4OD in this case which is trans code E. If the truck needing the PCM has that trans the replacement will obviously need to support it as well.

Good information.
It appears I can salvage the 1988/460 fuel injectors out of the donor truck for use in a 1989/460.
Question
If the donor truck labeled (K) transmission was an AOD trans, and a trans replacement/swap was in order, the PCM in the donor truck would be a direct swap-in.
Or would an E4OD PCM still be applicable in a setup with an AOD transmission?( throw a trans-related fault-code unless "electronically addressed")
Just trying to see if I should waste any time/money on some parts in the neighborhood, my trucks in pretty good shape, but, well, you know.

The AOD was a small block only trans never offered behind a big block so the only automatic options you have are the C6 and E4OD. If you were to put a C6 in the truck and not change the PCM it would throw a ton of codes set the CE light at the very least so a PCM swap would be a good idea.
