Strange Noise from Fuel Filter

It is starting to get cooler here in the Inland bay area..not like the midwest cold but 25-40 at night... ever since the temp dropped i hear a whining noise from the Frame rail fuel filter... i replaced it about 2 months ago/1k mile ago, and didnt make much noise, but when i prime the enigne, or turn the key on and wait for glow plugs... i here a whining noise, is that normal due to the temp? or is my fuel pump dieing, i do not have a fuel test gauge atm

It's possible the filter is not in right? If this just happened from after you changed filters, try draining the water separator valve, until it stops, then removing the filter, be sure it is seated in the cap, and line the o ring with diesel oil, thoroughly, then reinstall and torque. Then try cycling the key three times, before starting. The other thing you can do is have someone else cycle the key with the upper filter bowl open, and see if fuel is flowing to the top filter housing properly. Air bubbles? Also important to make sure this filter is seated properly in June cap amd line the o ring with diesel oil. This prevents the o ring kinking and having an air leak, fuel leak. It is possible you have a HFCM or pump problem but try these things first? Let us know how it goes. Do you have any codes, can you get them read if you don't have a code reader?

I guess its a possibility, opened it.... drained it out cleaned the housing and the cap, replaced orings, put a motorcraft filter in closed it. tightened it wrench tight. cycled the fuel system like 6 times before starting the truck.... that was it... didnt do anything special... Was i supposed to purge the system after the filter... you mentained a seperater valve... were is that located?

may be coincidence, the noice got conciderably louder when i fixed the FPR and added the oring, if you read my other post, i forgot the oring

The fuel system will bleed itself of air as you cycle the key.
