More ad b*tching

I let my FTE membership lapse so now I am getting the ads, which I really don't mind, I realize the site needs the revenue to survive. What really p*sses me off it the ads are so intrusive. I tried to upload an image for a recent post and the damn ad infringed on the comment window so I couldn't click on the submit button. I finally was able to insert the image, like the one below, by manipulating the window, shrinking and stretching it.

I clicked on the Xs to close the ad but all that did was advance to another layer of the same ad. I don't mind the ad but why do you IT guys have to have the ads screwing up the posting mechanisms? Come on guys, use your brains.

Do you have your pop-up blocker on? Try AdBlock Plus in your browser. Or re-up your membership....

The site is certainly not very friendly for a new user. But, with enough seasoned and paying users, I guess they don't need new blood. I do believe I would forgo trying to navigate the site if I were a new user. I would probably just go elsewhere. Other good sites do exist.

I need to get a popup blocker, I have to constantly watch out where the mouse cursor goes because the ads keep dropping down over the page. It is a pain but I can work around it.

It's a pain when I'm using my PC, using IE, but I was able to shrink, stretch the window to allow the button to show. That is a pain but I got a new tablet from my work for Christmas and can't manipulate the window like I can with my PC. I have ad blocker running on my PC but it doesn't do anything with these very intrusive ads.

I just can't figure out as a business why a web site would want to make it hard to use and annoying to their customers. As business you want to make it as easy as possible for the customer to use your product or else they will go somewhere else. Like Ray stated, us old fart users are ensconced in this site and will tolerate the annoyance but a new guy just might give up and go elsewhere. As with any aspect of this hobby we need new, young people to joy in. If they find it's a pain to deal with they'll go somewhere else.

Pop-up blocker is built-in on IE and Chrome at least, surely others. You just need to turn it on.

Pop up blocker and ad blocker are two very different things.
I haven't ever seen a single ad on this site because I use AdBlock Plus in Chrome (and Firefox the few times I use that)...

In your initial screenshot it just looks like a bug where the ad is on top of the image upload thing rather than on the page where it belongs. Either way I doubt anything will be done about it Still a great forum with lots of helpful resources for new members but you do need to run an adblocker. I think this is the case with almost all forums run by businesses these days.

Kevin, I'm not afraid of big brother, I don't pretend to wear a dress.

I just figure a squeaky wheel gets the oil. If no one says anything the owners of this site will just stacking crap onto it. I know there are other sites to go to and I've tried them but I keep coming back here, not because of the site itself, I come back in spite of the site, I come here because of the members and the family we've formed over the years.

I feel your pain, Bob. It's the contributors that make this site great, not the site masters. I don't feel compelled to pay to contribute, so I have no desire to become a "supporter." I support in my own way. IE is cumbersome with this site, and for some reason the adblocker program stopped working on Chrome for me. I use Firefox and adblocker and I get all the benefits without the extra cost or pita. And as mentioned, there are other, more user friendly forms that more of us could visit if it all goes too wrong.

I have to chime in here, but with a slightly different twist. It's about the new photo gallery location....... Anyone else have pictures of what other folks are apparently looking at pop up at the bottom of the page when you are looking at someone's photo gallery under their profile. I don't appreciate nude photos popping up when I'm in my living room with my family and on this site. I emailed the site, but haven't heard anything.

I never had that happen to me but I also don't usually look at other people's galleries. I will have to try it, of course only for research purposes and when I know none of my family members are around.

Dang!! It just happened to me. I went to a random member's gallery and hit the trending button and a bunch of family site inappropriate images came up. I'm not a prude and enjoy the female form just as much as any other blue blooded American male but those images shouldn't be connected to this site. At least not in my opinion, there are other sites for that kind of stuff.

Now back to my research.....

Did a little "research" did ya Bob? That was my thought exactly though. My 49 is a father/son project and my teens don't need anymore help in that area......The old gallery location seemed to be attached to the site itself, but the new one seems like it is remote or located online elsewhere. Not digging it!
