fe engine to sm465
i am in need of help here. im about to put a dodge d60 front under a 74 s cab 350 that is 2wd with np435. it has a fe 360 in it. i have access to a np435 that is 4wd but no case. i have numerous sm465s with a gm np205 behind them has anyone ever put a 465 behind a fe engine? i know both input shafts (sm465 and np435) are 6.5" stick out length. the sm is 10 spline 1 1/8 input. np is 1 1/16" 10 spline. a local clutch shop can make a clutch disk no problem there. quesion is bellhousing. can i use a the existing fe bellhousing and re drill it for the sm465 pattern? is there even enough room on it for that? next is throw out bearing. if the input shaft is smaller on the ford so is the existing bearing. will a gm bearing from the sm be the same width as the np one?

So, I guess what you are trying to do is use the Dodge front axle and GM transmission and transfer case? That will put the front driveshaft on right side, are you sure there is enough room? Ford engines are usually pretty far over to the right. You might be able to get the bell housing machined to accept the GM gearbox, but most SM 465 lower bolts come in from the clutch side and thread into the transmission case. '74 Fords used a divorced transfer case, but you might be able to mount a right drop 205 on your 435 transmission with Dodge parts. To be honest, it sounds like you are trying to use a bunch of parts you have laying around to convert this truck to a 4X4. If that is the case, I think you would be better off selling the parts you have and buying a left drop divorced 205 and a Ford 60F axle. Probably would be cheaper when you were through.
