hello from uk! 56 ford 250

hello ive just bought a 56 f250 custom cab. love it! but the brakes suspension and steeting have had it. i dont intend to fix what i have but to take it off, throw away and start agan. i was hoping a heidts ifs would be the same as f100 but its not. im in limbo i want to have rack n pinion disk brakes and not shake your fillings out suspension.anyone done anything with a f250 then theres the 8 lug rear......that gotta go too!

It sounds like you dont care about keeping the 8 lug wheels. With that in mind, the frame width is the same from an f100 to an f250, so the ifs kit will fit on your truck. Then swap out the rear for a five lug to match the new front pattern and you will be set.

I bought truck hoping a lot of parts would swap out from f100.was your crossmember an original equipment mustang 2 or was it a custom build? kind regards Nathan.

I see! I used to be in there a couple of times every other week for fuel. I inly ever used to overnight if the weather turned sour. Mines a 56 F100. Just about to go for paint. Injected 460,C6,Mustang 2 front, rear stainless 4 link on coils, discs all round. That's about it!

Welcome to the forum! There's a pretty good bunch of blokes here from UK and Northern Europe, so you're in good company. I've said before I have a lot of respect for you 'oer the ponders' who dabble in old American iron. It's hard enough to do these over here, but to go through the additional hassles and expense of increased time and shipping to do this impresses me.

While I'm not the definitive expert in the 53-56's, I don't believe there's so much difference between the 100 frame and the 250 that any IFS kit can't be made to work. If anything, the difference would be in the height of the rails or the thickness (gauge) of the steel. Neither of which would be a difference that couldn't be overcome. If it were me, I'd go with the Heidt's Superide II front suspension. The crossmember is all one piece, so there's no guess work on having the upper hat misplaced if the frame height is different. And it's a right pretty piece of kit when done. I have no doubt this could be installed in the F-250 without any more difficulty than an F-100. But that's just my two shillings.

Again, welcome!

There might be some merit in putting up a basic cross section drawing with dimensions on of your frame rails. Us mere mortals with an F100 could then check for any differences. If it's any consolidation, mine has been a driveway project too. Just budget 3 times as much cash and 4 times as much time and you'll be close!

My feeling is Heidts saying "won't fit" is more of a cya thing than whether or not it will or can be made to work.

It could also be that they are concerned with the extra weight capacity of a 250, if it were actually used as a truck.
