wipers are rattle-y and shaking

my 95 bronco I just bought - the wipers when active, shudder and skate across the window. I bought new wipers and scrubbed the window down w/ steel wool. no difference. I'm thinking the bushings or the wiper bases are worn... Anybody have any experience in this area?

Yep, I'd start with bushings in the linkage.

That is pretty much standard operation for these trucks, the windshield is too steep which creates turbulance and there isn't enough pressure on the wiper blades to keep them from lifting off at higher speeds.. 60mph+. A simple solution is to simply put some arch in the wiper arm, that will put more preload on the spring and that will reduce wiper hop.
